North Argentina Adventure by Land, Water & Air

Special Platinum DreamTrip — includes 3 domestic flights! Traverse northern Argentina from east to west to see waterfalls, mountains, ancient towns & more.

About Your Trip

Get to know amazing Argentina — its picture-perfect landscape, colorful culture and rich history — on this fully-escorted, adults-only Platinum DreamTrip. From Buenos Aires, you’ll travel to the northeastern region of the country then cross to the northwest before looping back to Buenos Aires. Along the way, you’ll take fascinating city tours, see a UNESCO-protected waterfall and valley, drive through a jungle, cruise along a river, and marvel at mountains, valleys and deserts. But, first, visit a local cabaret for a welcome dinner with your fellow DreamTrippers — you’ll even be treated to a performance of the lively tango, a popular regional dance on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

You’ll get a real feel for the spirited city of Buenos Aires when you tour some of its most famous barrios (or neighborhoods). Start in the heart of the city at downtown’s main square, Plaza de Mayo, then set off along the city’s culturally rich streets and avenues. You’ll end your fabulous first tour at La Recoleta Cemetery, an amazing aboveground cemetery lined with mausoleums and statues. Then, leave the city for northeastern Argentina and one of the planet's most outstanding examples of natural beauty — Iguazu Falls within Iguazu National Park. Over the course of 2 days, you'll experience the park in several remarkable ways, starting with a drive via 4x4 vehicle through the gorgeous flora and fauna of the subtropical jungle. You may be on a dirt road, but in times gone by, this was the route used by those wishing to visit the falls. Then, you’ll have a chance to admire the magnificent Iguazu Falls from your vantage point on the Argentinean side. The highest individual waterfall, Devil’s Throat, cascades more than 262.5 feet (80 meters). Afterward, just sit back and enjoy a safari ride through the jungle to the lower part of the Iguazu River. There, you’ll board a boat that glides along the river to the base of the waterfall for a different perspective of this world-renowned natural wonder.

Your next outing brings you across the country to the northwestern tip where new adventures await! In Salta, learn about its rich history that dates to 1582 with a city tour. Beyond Salta, the area is renowned for a terraine of mountains, desert, valleys and villages. You’ll travel through the Quebrada de Humahuaca, part of a historical trade route, past impressive rock formations to the small city of Humahuaca. The next day, transfer to Cafayate. Along the way, admire a desert countryside sprouting tall cactus with multiple arms covered in golden spines. Stop at the small city of Cachi before driving through Valles Calchaquies with rugged rock formations and into wine country. This area is home to Quebrada de las Conchas, soaring cliffs and deep gorges.

What we love:
• Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires is the widest avenue in the world and home to other landmarks like the iconic Obelisco and Teatro Colon, a world-renowned opera house.
• Extending about 2 miles (3 kilometers), UNESCO-protected Iguazu Falls is nearly 3 times as wide as Niagara Falls. It’s also nearly twice as high, at about 269 feet (82 meters).
• Puerto Iguazu is located at the intersection of 3 countries: Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
• Quebrada de Humahuaca represents a route from the lands in the high Andes to the plains at Rio Leone that transported people for more than 10,000 years.
• Buenos Aires has one of the edgiest, most active street-art communities anywhere, attracting local, national and international artists who work their magic on the city’s abandoned buildings and blank walls.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

Sometimes referred to as the “Paris of South America,” Buenos Aires is a thriving metropolis with a multicultural heritage stemming from its open acceptance of immigrants since its founding. As the cultural epicenter of Latin America, the city is a leading patron of the arts and social enrichment. You’ll find plentiful museums and art galleries here, along with an important live theater scene, thriving bookstores and more — plus, it’s the birthplace of the exhilarating tango!

From its location in northeastern Argentina, Puerto Iguazu is the gateway to Iguazu Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the western end of this small town is another popular attraction — Three Frontiers where the borders of 3 countries (Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil) meet.

Salta, set 3,600 feet (1,100 meters) above sea level in northwestern Argentina, was founded in 1582. Well-preserved colonial-era buildings are found in the city’s historic district, including Basilica y Convento de San Francisco.

Founded in 1840, the high-altitude town of Cafayate boasts a popular wine region within a red rock landscape. In town is a museum dedicated to wine making.
